Watertight Closures
COURSE LENGTH: 2 DAYS (16 HOURS)
COURSE LOCATIONS: Norfolk VA, National City CA, Bremerton WA
This course is designed to train newly assigned Damage Control Petty Officers who will be working on or around structural closures how to use NSTM 600, NAVSEA Drawings, Technical Manuals and Planned Maintenance System Maintenance Requirement Cards to properly conduct an inspection, identify and document discrepancies, disassemble and assemble a closure.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Purpose –

PURPOSE AND SAFETY
Explains the purpose of watertight doors on Navy vessels, identifies the different types and describes the safety precautions when using watertight doors.
LINKAGE’S
Trains personnel to disassemble and reassemble linkages.
HINGE AND GASKET
Trains personnel how to connect the door hinge and replace a gasket.
KNIFE EDGE INSPECTION
Explains how to conduct a proper inspection ensuring a intact gasket.
DOGS AND WEDGES
Trains personnel how to inspect, adjust and replace individual dogs and wedges.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Training will be taught in a classroom and mock-up setting.
