Fire Watch Operations – 4 Hours
COURSE LENGTH: Four (4) HOURS
COURSE LOCATIONS: Norfolk VA
Train students to recognize fire hazards, understand the fire triangle, know the different classes of fires and fire extinguishers, know the requirements before beginning hot work and know the emergency response plan.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
REFERENCE
- Occupational Safety and Health Standard for Shipyard Employment 1915 Subpart P.
FUNCTIONS – Trainees will be required to extinguish a live fire utilizing a pressurized water bottle and a CO2 fire extinguisher.
SAFETY AND PREVENTION
Explains the hazards of hot work and how to mitigate them.
FIRE AND TANK WATCH
The student will learn where potential fire hazards exist, the fire triangle, different classes of fires, the requirements before beginning hot work and the emergency response plan.
FIRE WATCH
Trains the student the standards set by OSHA,
FIRE WATCH – Understand the different types of fires and fire extinguishers, understand responsibilities of being a Firewatch
QUALIFICATIONS – None
MATERIALS REQUIRED – Pressurized Water Bottles, CO2 Fire Extinguishers, propane tank, lighter and burner.
WORKING CONDITIONS – This position is considered SHOP/OUTDOORS which is characterized as follows.
- Primarily working on Naval Ships in various spaces.
- Humidity is frequently above 90%
- Noise is over 85 decibels
- Light is intense/glare
- Exposure to open fire/flames/sparks
- Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases
- Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures
